Description of the search
This research is being conducted by the University of Alberta in collaboration with the Francophone Immigration Network of Alberta (RIFA) and the Francophonie Albertaine Plurielle (FRAP). It aims to understand the systemic barriers faced by international students and racialized Francophone immigrants in accessing the teaching profession in Alberta. The study also helps to identify strategies that promote their integration and retention in French-language and French immersion schools.

Explore the challenges international students encounter on their journey to becoming permanent residents, as well as the key factors influencing their decision to stay in Alberta communities.
Investigate
Investigate the socio-professional paths of racialized immigrants, focusing on their pre-migration and post-migration life stories, their aspirations for entering the teaching profession, their lived experiences during teacher training, as well as their transition into the education workforce.
Identify
Identify conscious and unconscious biases that may affect the hiring process of racialized teachers
Establish
Establish baseline data on the participation of Francophone racialized immigrants in the teaching profession in Alberta.
Recommend
Recommend strategies that support their hiring, retention, and inclusion in Francophone and French immersion schools.
